We compete with all three

Inclusely is a Shopify accessibility app in early access, so we have a stake in this comparison. We have no affiliate links and no relationship with any of these companies. We quote their own listings and say where each may fit.

accessiBe, UserWay and AudioEye all sell an overlay: a script that adds a toolbar and automatic changes on top of your site. On Shopify, accessiBe lists $59 to $479 a month and UserWay $49 to $349. AudioEye has no Shopify app and no public prices. None of them fixes your theme code, and none can make a store compliant on its own.

What all three have in common

All three are overlay widgets at their core. A script loads on every page, adds a button that opens a toolbar (text size, contrast, spacing and similar settings) and tries to repair some problems automatically as the page loads. The changes happen in the shopper's browser, on top of your store. Your theme files and product data stay the same.

That has three effects store owners should know about:

  • The barriers are still in the theme. If the script fails or loads late, shoppers get the original store.
  • Many disabled users already have their own tools. Screen readers, zoom and high contrast settings are built into phones and computers. A second toolbar can get in their way.
  • Widgets do not stop lawsuits. EcomBack counted 3,948 ADA website suits in 2025, and 24.9% of them named sites that already had an accessibility widget.

Our page on whether accessibility overlays work covers the evidence in more detail.

accessiBe in brief

accessiBe sells accessWidget. Its Shopify app has the Built for Shopify badge, which Shopify gives for performance, design and integration, not for accessibility results. Its plans on October 17, 2026:

  • Micro: $59 a month, up to 5,000 site visits a month
  • Growth: $179 a month, adds a dedicated case manager and litigation support with a $15,000 pledge
  • Scale: $479 a month, adds a $20,000 pledge and manual testing and fixes

It may be worth it if you want a toolbar for shoppers and a vendor that handles paperwork, and you fix the store itself as well. It is not worth it as the only fix. The FTC's 2025 order (below) is about exactly that claim. If you are comparing accessiBe with tools that fix the code, see our accessiBe alternatives guide. Our accessiBe pricing review shows every plan and the yearly math.

How much does UserWay cost per month?

On its Shopify App Store listing on October 17, 2026:

  • Free: a light widget with 20 features
  • Shopify Starter: $49 a month ($490 a year), up to 100,000 page views a month
  • Shopify Small Biz: $149 a month ($1,490 a year), up to 1 million page views
  • Shopify Growth: $349 a month ($3,490 a year), up to 10 million page views

Its own pricing page listed annual plans only: Small at $490 a year, Medium at $1,490, Pro Plus at $1,190 and Ultimate at $2,490, with audits and VPATs as “talk to us” add-ons. The Shopify listing says the app will “shield against accessibility-related lawsuits”. No widget can do that, and one reviewer wrote in November 2024 that their store was being sued while using it. If you are leaving UserWay, see our guide to UserWay alternatives that fix the code.

Did Level Access buy UserWay?

Yes. Level Access, an accessibility company that sells testing software and expert services, announced on March 20, 2024 that it had completed its acquisition of UserWay. UserWay still sells under its own name, and its pricing page points customers who want more to the Level Access platform.

AudioEye: pricing and Shopify

AudioEye is a public company (Nasdaq: AEYE). Its pricing page on October 17, 2026 showed three plans and no prices:

  • Basic Protection (automated): automated tools that it says address about 50% of accessibility issues, monitoring and a help desk. It does not include expert testing.
  • Self-Serviced Protection: developer tools, an expert audit and reporting.
  • Maximum Protection (managed): custom-written fixes, expert audits and the AudioEye Assurance Guarantee.

On Shopify, AudioEye's App Store listing said “This app is not currently available on the Shopify App Store.” Its help centre tells merchants to paste a script into the theme's theme.liquid file instead. That works, but you then manage the script yourself, including removing it.

AudioEye's managed plan is the closest of the three to real fixes, because it includes custom-written fixes and expert audits. Ask whether those fixes change your theme or are applied by the script. For AudioEye's plans, lawsuits and other options, see our AudioEye alternatives and pricing guide.

The FTC order against accessiBe

On April 22, 2025, the Federal Trade Commission approved a final order requiring accessiBe to pay $1 million. The order bars it from claiming its automated products can make any website WCAG compliant, or keep it compliant, without evidence, and from presenting paid reviews as independent. The order covers accessiBe only. We found no FTC order against UserWay or AudioEye on October 17, 2026.

The full background is in our guide to the accessiBe FTC settlement, and what overlays do is on our overlays page.

A third option for Shopify stores

If what you want is a store that works for disabled shoppers, the fix has to happen in the store: alt text on product photos, readable theme colours, labelled forms, menus and cart drawers that work with a keyboard, and apps that do not add new barriers. You can do that yourself with free tools, hire a developer, or use an app that changes the theme with your approval.

That last option is what we are building. Inclusely checks every template against WCAG 2.2 AA, fixes product alt text and theme settings you approve, gives exact theme code changes, guides the tests a person must do and keeps a dated record. It adds no widget. It is in early access, and it is one option among several; our guide to Shopify accessibility apps lists others. See how it works.

Switching from a widget?

Fix or plan fixes first, then turn off the app embed (Online Store, Themes, Edit theme, App embeds), uninstall the app, cancel any direct billing, and search theme.liquid on a copy of your theme for leftover scripts. The full steps are in our accessiBe alternatives guide.

Questions about accessiBe, UserWay and AudioEye

What is the difference between accessiBe, UserWay and AudioEye?

All three sell an accessibility overlay: a script that adds a toolbar and automatic changes on top of your website. accessiBe and UserWay have Shopify apps with listed monthly prices. AudioEye has no Shopify app listed and no public prices, and sells managed plans with expert audits. None of them changes your theme code in the way a developer would.

Is accessiBe worth it?

It depends on what you want. If you want a toolbar for shoppers plus a vendor who handles legal paperwork, it may fit. If you want the barriers in your theme fixed, a widget does not do that. In 2025, 24.9% of ADA website suits named sites that already had a widget (EcomBack), and in April 2025 the FTC ordered accessiBe to pay $1 million over its claims. Our accessiBe pricing review covers each plan and the yearly math.

How much does UserWay cost per month?

On the Shopify App Store on October 17, 2026, UserWay listed a free plan and paid plans at $49, $149 and $349 a month, based on monthly page views. Its own website listed annual plans from $490 a year for up to 100,000 page views a month.

Did Level Access buy UserWay?

Yes. Level Access announced on March 20, 2024 that it had completed its acquisition of UserWay. UserWay's pricing page now points customers who want more to the Level Access platform.

How much does AudioEye cost?

AudioEye's pricing page showed no prices on October 17, 2026. Its plans were Basic (automated), Self-Serviced and Maximum Protection (managed), with Get started and Talk to an expert buttons. Its automated plan says it addresses about 50% of accessibility issues.

Does AudioEye work with Shopify?

Not as an App Store app. AudioEye's Shopify listing said the app was not currently available on October 17, 2026. AudioEye's help centre explains how to paste its script into your theme's theme.liquid file instead.

Will any of these make my store ADA compliant?

No tool can promise that, and the FTC's order against accessiBe bars it from claiming its automated products can make any website WCAG compliant without evidence. A store moves toward WCAG 2.2 AA by fixing its theme, content and apps, and by testing with people.
